African Union-European Union Innovation Platform

Grants seek to strengthen research and innovation cooperation to drive sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Last week Horizon Europe published a call for proposals due 25 April to foster links and networks between innovation stakeholders from the EU and the African Union (AU) with the ultimate goal of reducing poverty and inequalities. In a previous ministerial meeting, leaders agreed to focus cooperation on four priority areas: Public Health, Green Transition, Innovation & Technology, and Capacities for Science. They also agreed on a joint innovation agenda. Grants will support the implementation of the agreed innovation agenda.

Seven grants are expected to be made, with budgets ranging from €1.5 to €2.5 million. Proposals should:

  • Support the implementation of the EU-AU innovation agenda by providing a convening platform.
  • Facilitate annual or bi-annual meetings with key innovation stakeholders.
  • Support Eureka-funded SMEs, shortening the time-to-market of their innovative solutions.

Target groups for this opportunity include networks of start-ups, innovators, incubators, accelerators, academia, research and technology organisations, think tanks, non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations and private and financial actors.
