Apprenticeship NPRM Comments Due Monday

USDOL’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking intends to enhance apprenticeship system with help from the public.

At 779 pages, the recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking from USDOL seeks to update the nation’s Registered Apprenticeship system to expand the system with quality, center equity and clarify the roles of partners in the system. You can submit your comments for review, starting with a review of the NPRM in the Federal Register.

The NPRM builds off of the strength of the existing apprenticeship system, stakeholder input and national and international research. With over 800,000 active apprentices and more than 23,000 programs, these updated rules have the potential to better the work of apprentices and apprenticeship providers now and into the future.

The rulemaking is broken into 3 subparts. Subpart A updates information related to standards, registration, agreements, deregistration and the rest of the nuts and bolts that go into making apprenticeship the gold standard of workforce training.

Subpart B proposes a new, student-centric model for registering apprentices aligned with Perkins.

Subpart C addresses data, reporting and governance in the 25 State Apprenticeship Agency states.
