Horizon Europe is funding the development and deployment of new curricula relevant to bio-based systems.
Due 18 September and funded at a total level of over 172 million euros, this European Commission-funded initiative seeks collabroation between higher education and industry to create innovative and competetive circular bioeconomy.
The call seeks to build technical and technological development, training and re- and up-skilling of future and present bioeconomy professionals. Key skills, “could include digital skills, biotech, biomanufacturing, environmental sustainability assessment and circularity, toxicology/risk assessment, ecodesign and safe-and-sustainable-by-design concepts for bio-based products, business development and process development,” states the call. There are also references to soft skills and cross-sectoral skills as essential.
Successful proposals should seek to establish a network of industry and education partners, mobilize that network to co-create curricula, and test the developed curricula with pilot groups of students and professionals. Anticipated outcomes include developed and validated curricula and the deplopment of EU-wide actions “supporting the acquisition of new skills, as relevant for sustainable and circular bio-based systems.”
