EPA Water Infrastructure Workforce Grants Out Now

Due November 17th, grants will create a pipeline (ahem) of skilled and diverse water utility workers.

“As utilities make critical investments in infrastructure, drinking water and wastewater utilities should also invest in the development of a strong local workforce to strengthen communities and ensure a strong pipeline of skilled and diverse workers for today and tomorrow,” says the EPA’s funding notice, available for review here.

With a focus on underserved communities paired with critical infrastructure investments, the grants will fund recruitment of diverse talent, expand training, develop innovative strategies and contribute to the reduction of green house gas emissions.

Pages 3-10 of the notice detail six project areas they intend to fund, with applicants required to identify their project area. Ranging from internships and apprenticeships to K-12 to leadership development, a wide range of activities are allowable under the grant.

The EPA expects to award up to 18 grantees at up to $1 million each for most project areas, with up to $6.8 million set aside for up to 4 grantees that will pursue internships, apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship and post-secondary bridge programs.

We at Aspect Works have deep knowledge of both grant applications and apprenticeship pipeline programs, including previous work with Seattle Public Utilities. Let us help you prepare a winning application and get in touch below.
