EU-Wide Upskilling of Vulnerable Youth

With €9 million available, the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) deadline is set for 29 February.

With a focus on young people not in employment, education or training, ESF+ intends to fund projects between €200 000 and €700 000 that will develop the skills of youth by re-engaging them in learning and integrating them into the labour market. The call pinpoints addressing skills gaps and developing skills for the green transition as priorities.

Activities the call will support includes outreach, upskilling, skills development, guidance, skills validation and mutual learning events. Expected outcomes, “should be realistic and defined in measurable terms” with the needs of vulnerable young people at the forefront.

Anticipated outcomes include:

  • Improved employability and competitiveness of vulnerable young people by equipping them with the right skills;
  • Increased number of young people who have been re-engaged into learning or integrated into the labour market;
  • Transition of already existing practices that have proven to be successful in other contexts;
  • Strengthened role of vulnerable young people as active citizens in society;
  • Increased awareness and knowledge by society and stakeholders from the local to the EU level of innovative approaches to foster skills development of young people.
