Expanding Access to Basic Education in LAC

USAID will fund one award at $25 million to expand inclusive access to quality basic education in Latin America and the Caribbean.

With the goal of “expanded inclusive access to quality basic education for marginalized and vulnerable learners,” USAID will fund a five year cooperative agreement at up to $25 million, with applications due May 13th, moved back from an original closing date of May 3rd.

The awardee will manage a regional fund with three main components:

  1. Providing sub-grants to local organizations to expand work in inclusive education and promising innovations.
  2. Provide technical assistance to strengthen local capacity of organizations to work with USAID, increasing access and improving the quality of education for marginalized groups.
  3. Generating, disseminating and using evidence from the local education sub-grants.

USAID has identified participating countries, with the caveat that awardees are not limited to these countries: Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, select English-speaking Eastern and Southern Caribbean countries, Ecuador, El

Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Paraguay. See the full NOFO at grants.gov for more on national eligibility.

The “maginalized and disadvantaged” groups USAID has identified include migrants, refugees, internally displaced children, youth affected by violence, youth with disabilities, indigenous and afro-descendent youth, marginalized gender groups, rural youth and more. As with other recent USAID grants, localization objectives that localize funding and leadership that foster inclusive ownership continue to be prioritized.
