FAA’s Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition

Due November 27th, $50 million is available for projects that support sustainable aviation fuels.

With resources from the Inflation Reduction Act, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced the FAST Grant Program, Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition. Projects must support sustainable aviation fuels and low-emission aviation technologies in line with the goals of the United States Aviation Climate Action Plan. Low-emission technologies funded by these grants will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aviation.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) projects can include SAF production, transportation, blending or storage, and low-emission projects can either focus on the design and testing of low-emission aviation technologies or enhancing aircraft and engine testing.

FAST-SAF grants will range between $100,000 and $20,000,000 and FAST-Tech grants will range between $500,000 and $10,000,000. Applicants may propose a period of performance between one and five years. Projects should be ready to begin by August 1, 2024.

Eligible applicants include state governments, air carriers, airports, higher education, research institution and other entities. Cost sharing is required either in case or in-kind, based on the entity applying.
