DOL has posted this year’s grant opportunity to encourage women in apprenticeship and non-traditional occupations.
Due August 8th, the United States Department of Labor will make up to 14 awards between $350k and $750k for a total of $5 million. To be eligible, an organization must have 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, or be part of consortium of community-based organizations with at least one 501(c)(3c) administering the grant.
The program will provide technical assistance to employers, including those in the public sector, encouraging the employment of women in apprenticeable and non-traditional occupations. Those are defined as “occupations where women account for less than 25 percent of all persons employed in a single occupation group.” See the full announcement for details.
Applicants can develop pre-apprenticeship, youth apprenticeship, Registered Apprenticeship or other training programs; provide orientations or resources for employers, unions and workers; and set up support groups, facilitate networks, or provide supportive services for women in non-traditional occupations, to improve their retention.
