Georgian TVET Support Program

DOS Technical and Vocational Education and Training support program will fund two grants at $100k each.

Applications are due July 1st for grant applications that will meet the program objectives, with public-private partnerships encouraged to apply:

  • Develop systematic vocational counselling and career guidance.
  • Integrate a gender perspective in policy planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Increase the participation of women in formerly make-dominated TVET programming.
  • Strengthen provider capacity on gender disparities in student recruitment and retention.

Like we see in the US, gender imbalances across training programs is a challenge to the participation of women in traditionally male occupations. Grantmakers at the US Department of State have recognized that these kinds of reforms will support socio-economic development, poverty reduction and the development of human capital to meet local labor market needs.

Whether it’s gendered stereotypes about the types of work men and women “should” do or the negative stigmas against vocational education based in the Soviet era, it’s clear that reforms paired with better-developed career guidance can help challenge these long-held beliefs.
