Department of Labor grant program, open to State Workforce Agencies, closes September 5th.
With $30 million estimated total program funding and an award ceiling of $8 million, 10 State Workforce Agencies will be funded to, “address critical workforce needs for in-demand skilled trade careers and in high-growth and emerging industries.” Interestingly, $5 million of the total will be awarded to support training in shipbuilding.
The focus of the grants will very much be on partnering with eligible employers to reimburse them for training costs. See TEGL 02-25 for information on eligible employers, eligible training participants, expected outcomes, tracking indicators and more.
Different from other DOL grants, 90% of these funds must be used to reimburse employers, with the remaining 10% able to be spent on program costs. Successful applications will need to show close existing industry partnerships and compelling narrative on how the agency will keep program costs low, especially considering the data, tracking and reporting requirements in the grant.
