With dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act, NOAA is getting into workforce development.
“A climate ready nation requires a climate ready workforce,” says NOAA in their latest notice of funding opportunity. Focusing on jobs that enhance climate resilience, grants will meet the skill needs of employers while helping workers enter good jobs.
The basics:
LOIs due November 30.
Applications due February 13, 2024.
10-20 awards between $500k and $10 million.
Eligibility based on location, with state governments, tribal governments, local governments, educational institutions, and non-profits all eligible to apply as long as they meet the definition of a “backbone organization.”
While citing good jobs and climate resilience as central aims, the NOFO also details how grantees will advance the goal that “40 percent of the overall benefits…in climate, clean energy, and other investments flow to disadvantaged communities.” Prospective grantees must use the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool to assess eligibility.
