Promoting An Inclusive West Africa

Department of State will award 1 grant at $1.25 million, with applications due May 7th.

Earlier this month the Bureau of Democracy Human Rights and Labor announced an open competition to address ethnic marginalization across Coastal West Africa. The opportunity is open to both U.S.-based and foreign NGOs.

DRL identifies two core objectives that a successful grantee should address:

  • Government policies and programs address the needs and vulnerabilities of marginalized ethnic groups.
  • Members of marginalized ethnic groups occupy more decision-making roles in Coastal West Africa to increase likelihood that government policies and programs protect their human rights.

The notice of funding outlines possible activities to address the challenges faced, including outreach, building advocacy networks, raising awareness, developing new policies, gap mapping, building skills, collaboration and more. The NOFO, available at grants.gov, goes into greater details and outlines more than a dozen possible activities.
