Promoting ILO Recommendation No 208

The ILO’s recommendation on quality apprenticeship sets a new standard for labor.

Designed to foster, “opportunities for individuals of all ages to acquire, enhance, and continuously update their skills,” the International Labor Organisation’s recommendation No 208 commits to preventing exploitation, discrimination, violence and harassment against apprentices.

The ILO has provided a set of social media assets to promote the rollout of R208, including an infographic on shaping apprenticeship standards, social media cards, and an overview of how to participate.

The goals of the rollout include raising awareness among workers, employers and policymakers about R208, and to combat stereotypes of apprenticeship. At the recent Skills Fair on Quality Apprenticeship, hosted by the ILO, it was striking to see that the challenges facing apprenticeships around the world are similar to those in the U.S. Changing perceptions, guaranteeing apprentice safety and explaining the benefits of quality apprenticeships are through lines no matter where we do this work.
