USAID Energy Talent Development

West Africa activity will result in one award of $8 million, with applications set to close January 24th.

Power Africa “Energy Talent Development – West Africa” will work with local institutions to transition the region to sustainable low-carbon energy systems. Grantmakers hope to see an increase in the availability of and access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern electricity servies in West Africa.

This activity will build the capacity of local institutions and individuals through training, workshops and other interventions. Power Africa’s framework articulates a vision of universal access to clean energy. Capacity will be built based on four objectives:

  • Optimizing utility performance to increase access;
  • Off-grid generation and connections increased;
  • Transition to clean energy development and deployment accelerated;
  • Private sector investment and innovation in the energy sector enhanced for domestic and regional infrastructure.

Only local entities in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone or Togo may apply. Nigerian organizations are not eligible, but USAID is expecting a separate opportunity to be released for Nigerian organizations. Read more at grants.gov.
