We’ve long recognized the possibilities of microcredentials. MiCRET is measuring where countries are now. 

The MiCRET Microcredentials Thermometer, co-funded by the European Union, is asking a key question: “how hot is your country on microcredentials?” They’re taking complex data and building clear snapshots of progress, country-by-country, combining policy developments, the maturity of each country’s microcredentials ecosystem, infrastructure and adoption. 

The goal is to help policy makers, educators and industry better understand the landscape of microcredentials within their country, where and how they can plug in to existing microcredentials initiatives, and examine the gaps and opportunities in each country. As they state on their website, the project is less about ranking and more about stimulating dialogue and accelerating action. They’re also clear that the project is not meant as definitive or exhaustive. 

We at Aspect Works will continue to follow this project with interest, recognizing how critical microcredentails could be in future European VET training, and how far microcredentials still have to go towards widespread adoption.
